Assignment 1 part 2: Magazine Collage

Before:

I knew that since I had a second chance at this project, I wanted to do a few things differently. This time I wanted to deal with color instead of texture, because I found that to be easier for me to control. I wanted to do something with a grid, because I wanted to have clean cuts that I could control, Because the last project was just a nightmare(I had so many scraps).

After:

I took a lot of inspiration from Chuck Close with this project. I feel I was successful with what I wanted to do. The grid worked, I had no scraps, so I used all the pieces of the magazine. Also I think going into this project thinking about working with color rather than texture was the right thing to do, in fact I feel that texture blended into what I was working with anyway. Overall I'm pretty happy with this.

Assignment 1: Magazine collage

Before:

This image has interesting texture and color. I knew when picking a page from a magazine that I wanted there to be text because I wanted to manipulate it. I really liked the "halo-like" hair se has going on, I thought I could definitely do something with that. The same goes for the jewelry, the texture was definitely something I wanted to pay with.

After:

I definitely underestimated the craft it takes to do this project. The cuts need to be incredibly precise. If you don't make the cut right you loose parts of the page and end up with scraps that you are unable to use in the final composition. I ended up using pretty much every piece of the magazine, but those few scraps definitely frustrate me... I'll be taking note of this for the project.
